About ten years ago I visited Syd Dutton at Illusion Arts. At the end of our short time together I asked him how many matte painters are there in the world today? He said hundreds. Then I said how many REAL matte painters are in the world today? Traditional matte painters he asked and I said yeah. About twelve was his response. So in reference to the question...is matte painting (the true art) dead? It is my friend. It most certainly is.

Unfortunatly the art of make-up has been loss and or held back due to CGI. While I believe these advance's are great when blowing things up and falling FX etc. The REAL feeling of the charactors being real are lost.

Does anyone know where high resolution images of these photos exist? I would like to use one of them for a digital inkjet wallpaper run for my games room. :)
